A standard residential connection is one that can be completed under AGN's standard connection arrangements and does not require network extensions, augmentation, complex construction works or other non-standard services.

A standard connection generally applies when:

• The new gas connection will supply up to four residential homes on the property.
• There are no other buildings, homes, or installations on the property that use gas or require a gas connection.
• Expected gas usage is 1,500 megajoules (MJ) per hour or less under normal operating conditions.
• The gas pressure required at the outlet of the new meter does not exceed 2.75 kPa.

The examples below are provided for general guidance only and are intended to illustrate when the standard residential gas connection charge would generally apply, and when an individual quote may be required instead. Whether a connection qualifies as a standard residential connection or may require an individual quote will depend on the specific circumstances of the property, the connection requirements and the works required to complete the connection.

Standard residential gas connection charge:

Scenario 1 – New home

A family of four is in the process of building their new home and needs a gas connection before they can move in. The home has been designed with a gas cooktop, gas oven, and instantaneous hot-water system.

Scenario 2 – Existing home without a gas connection

A newly married couple has purchased an older home and discovers that there is currently no gas connection at the property. They would like to install a gas stove, fireplace, and hot-water system.

Scenario 3 – New Home

A family is constructing a large luxury home with multiple gas appliances, including multiple gas hot water units , gas heating for the home as well as a swimming pool and spa,  and gas oven and stove top for indoor/outdoor kitchen. The combined gas load of all the appliances will exceed 1,500 MJ/h.

Scenario 4 – Subdivision

A homeowner subdivides their existing residential property to create a second lot and builds a new home on the newly created block (shared driveway/common property). The original home already has an established gas connection, but the new home requires its own gas supply. 

Scenario 5 – Small industrial customer

A panel beater is setting up a repair workshop and is installing a spray booth & baking oven. The baking oven requires a higher than standard supply pressure of 4kPa.

Scenario 6 – Property beyond the existing gas network

A builder is constructing a new residential home and requires a gas connection. The existing gas distribution network does not extend to the property, so approximately 20m of new gas main will need to be constructed to extend the network and supply the site.

The new arrangements apply to gas connection requests lodged on or after 1 October 2026.

Applications lodged before 1 October 2026 will be assessed under the current arrangements, subject to quote validity periods, project changes and contractual requirements.

The upfront charge for an eligible standard residential gas connection in Albury is $2,235 (excluding GST).

This applies to eligible new residential connections in postcodes 2640, 2641 and 2642.

If your connection does not meet the above criteria, it may be considered a non-standard connection. In these cases, AGN will assess your requirements and provide a tailored quote based on the work needed.

For non-standard connections, any applicable charge is by quotation and generally covers the cost of connecting the property to AGN's gas distribution network. Depending on the connection, this may include:

• Service line installation
• Meter installation
• Network connection works
• Non-standard connections may require a separate assessment and quotation.

Yes. The connection charge only covers AGN's network connection service.

Other costs may include:

• Internal plumbing works
• Gas appliance purchase and installation
• Site preparation
• Builder or contractor costs

A no access charge may apply where AGN attends the property to undertake connection works but is unable to complete the work because access is unavailable or the site is not ready for connection.

If a return visit is required, additional charges may apply in accordance with AGN’s applicable connection terms and charges.

Customers should ensure the site meets the relevant site readiness requirements before booking connection works.

AGN is responsible for gas network connections and connection charges.

Energy retailers are responsible for gas supply, retail contracts, billing and account management.
