In late July 2023 the Victorian government announced a new rule regarding gas connections for new homes or renovations being built that require a planning permit and will be applying for that planning permit after 31 December 2023.

If you are reading this before 31 December 2023 and are about to undertake a major residential building project – ensure your planning permit has been lodged (if you need one) so you still have the choice to include gas appliances!

And for everyone else who is just keen to know what is happening and does this affect you? Read on!

Importantly, this new requirement does not apply to:

• Our customers outside of Victoria.
• New dwellings that do not require a planning permit.
• Existing homes that have an existing gas connection.
• Existing homes without an existing gas connection.
• Renovations and extensions to existing dwellings that do not require a planning permit.
