The successful on-time, on-budget completion of the Tanami Natural Gas Pipeline project has featured in the 2019 Northern Territory Earth Awards announced last night in Darwin by Australia’s peak voice in the civil construction industry - the Civil Contractors Federation.
The Tanami Natural Gas Pipeline (TNGP) project was announced as a finalist in the award for a project value of $75 million or more.
This followed a joint submission to the CCFNT Earth Awards from the Australian Gas Infrastructure Group (AGIG) and MPC Kinetic (MPCK) on the Tanami Natural Gas Pipeline (TNGP) project completed early this year for Newmont Goldcorp.
AGIG is the nation’s leading gas infrastructure business and MPCK is a key participant in major Australian resource developments.
AGIG’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr Ben Wilson, and MPCK’s Managing Director and CEO, Mr John Smith, both attended last night’s gala presentation in Darwin.
Mr Wilson said AGIG was privileged to be awarded the TNGP contract early in 2018 by Newmont Goldcorp Australia Pty Ltd to supply natural gas to power its world class Tanami Mining facilities.
“AGIG in turn awarded MPCK the construction of the large-scale 440km underground pipeline, one of largest investments undertaken in the Northern Territory in recent years and one of AGIG’s most significant projects and investments in Australia,” Mr Wilson said.
“The successful outcome is that AGIG and MPCK joined forces to develop and construct a challenging project that has demonstrated excellence and innovation in the areas of construction, project management, environmental management and safety,” he said.
"To deliver the project safely and ahead of schedule for Newmont Goldcorp and its operating gold mine is a feather in the caps of all involved and we look forward to AGIG's continuing involvement in delivering such vital projects to the benefit of all Australians."
Mr Smith said the TNGP project being chosen as a finalist in the 2019 CCFNT Earth Awards was a tribute to the tireless efforts of the AGIG-MPCK project team which had to contend with challenging 50+ degree conditions and an extremely remote location, to deliver the project ahead of time, on budget and most importantly, incident free.
“Thanks to AGIG’s comprehensive route investigation and extensive collaboration with Laramba, Yuendumu and Yuelumu communities, MPCK’s team of 700+ people was able to quickly mobilise project crews and more than 250 pieces of equipment to start constructing the 440km pipeline to interconnect with the NT’s existing Amadeus Gas Pipeline,” Mr Smith said.
“It takes a very focused team to deliver a project like this and I am pleased to see that the MPCK - AGIG team has been recognised as a finalist by industry peers for the successful completion of the project,” he said.
