For a limited time only, Australian Gas Networks is once again offering its customers in existing dwellings a $500 appliance rebate for the installation of new (not replacement) natural gas hot water. This offer is specifically for established dwellings already connected to natural gas. A special offer is available for properties connecting to natural gas for the very first time. We also have a special offer for AGN customers in Mildura and in Southern New South Wales.

What's on offer?

$500 appliance rebate for natural gas hot water

A $500 appliance rebate is available for the installation of dedicated natural gas hot water systems (this excludes gas-boosted solar models, and natural gas-to-natural gas replacements).

In 2019, this rebate is available from 1 January 2019 until 13 December 2019.

Limit 1 x $500 appliance rebate for natural gas hot water per metered household.

If an additional natural gas hot water system is installed, a $100 appliance rebate is payable for this second unit.


What are the Terms and Conditions?

Key campaign terms are as listed:

1)  Appliance rebates are only open to established dwellings (including rentals) covered by the network owned by AGN (you can use this postcode list to check if your location is eligible), and where natural gas has been connected for 6 months or greater. New builds are excluded from these offers.

2)  Appliance rebates can be claimed by customers in one of two ways:

  • Customers can choose a participating rebate supplier, who will be able to supply and/or install the appliance required and facilitate rebate payments from AGN (most commonly as a discount from price). Use this directory to find suppliers closest to your area.
  • Alternatively, customers can now claim appliance rebates direct from AGN using AGN's new cashback website, once appliance installation is complete. The cashback website is found here. To make a successful claim, customers will need to make sure they can attach a copy of the Gas Certificate of Compliance/Gas Compliance Certificate, and any invoices relating to appliance purchase and installation. Approved rebate claims will be paid to customers as a cashback by direct bank transfer.

3)  Rebates can only be claimed for fully connected natural gas appliances, purchased during the relevant campaign period. The Campaign Period for hot water appliance rebates is 1 January 2019 until 13 December 2019. A 2 month Grace Period will apply after the end of the Campaign Period, should customers need to finalise appliance installation and make a rebate claim.

4)  Conversions of appliances from LPG to natural gas qualify for AGN's appliance rebates.

5)  Proof of purchase/appliance installation will be required for each appliance rebate being claimed, as well as a Gas Certificate of Compliance/Gas Compliance Certificate.

6)  Appliance rebates are only for new (not replacement) natural gas appliances. No appliance rebate will be payable for a direct natural gas to natural gas replacement. An upgrade form one type of natural gas hot water system to another type of natural gas hot water system is also considered a direct natural gas replacement (e.g. changing from a natural gas storage system to a natural gas continuous flow system is still a replacement and does not comply for the $500 appliance rebate).

7)  Appliance rebates are subject to limits. E.g. an eligible household may claim a maximum of 1 x $500 appliance rebate for (new, not replacement) natural gas hot water. If a second (new, not replacement) natural gas hot water system is installed, this unit will qualify for a $100 appliance rebate. Limits also apply across Campaigns.

8)  The $500 appliance rebate rate will only be paid to hot water systems that are fuelled only by natural gas. If a gas-boosted solar hot water system is installed, only a $100 appliance rebate will apply for this installation.

9)  This offer replaces the 2018 Additional Hot Water Rebate Promotion for existing gas customers, as well as any previous variations of this Promotion.
